INSTITUTO MÁRES – Participatory Efforts

back

The purpose of the subproject, under the responsibility of Instituto Marés, is to support the creation of instruments for participatory management and dealing with the impacts generated by marine pollution through the evaluation of residues in marine and coastal compartments and their effects on fishing communities in Rio de Janeiro.

The execution of this initiative will prioritize technical quality, based on the technical experience of the executing team, associated with the social and inclusive participation of different social actors, especially small-scale fisherfolk, as well as an environmental assessment regarding marine pollution for monitoring and analysis of solid and oil waste in marine and coastal compartments.

With this, the subproject aims to build transdisciplinary strategies to be appropriated by small-scale fishing communities to face marine pollution in Rio de Janeiro, through the environmental perception of potential socioenvironmental impacts and participatory mechanisms for evaluating and proposing public policies aimed at the conservation of islands, bays, and rivers.

The methodological foundation of the work is of an exploratory nature, regarding the search for data from bibliographical and documentary research, sampling and field observation on aspects related to marine litter in the area of study, as well as analyzing actions to face marine pollution by this type of waste.
