Based on the data bank collated by the UFRJ Fisheries Biology and Technology Laboratory, the project aims to analyze the impact fishing activities are having on the dynamic of the marine ecosystem along the northern Rio coast.
The methodology adopted by the research team consists in combining ecological and economic data on the fisheries production chain in order to better understand how they interrelate. The project has the potential to open new avenues for study on fisheries resources that can ensure socioeconomic sustainability without hampering the effort to preserve the state’s biodiversity.
In addition to the UFRJ data bank, the initiative also draws upon material made available by the Monitoring of Northern Fluminense Fisheries Project (PMAP), and a production-chain tracking tool developed by the UENF. The project is coordinated by the Friends of the National Museum.
